We learned about the grand opening through a pamplet given out different the Redmond Deby Days Parade.  We decided to check it out.  There were about 200 people there when we arrived.  They were a simul game in which Coach Rudy was playing against ~15 kids.  It is amazing to watch how focus the kids were.

Raspberry Picking at Remlinger Farms

15th July 2012

Background

Remlinger Farms is a 350-acre (1.4 km2) working farm located in Carnation, Washington, and listed in the Library of Congress Local Legacies Project. It is open to the public for 6 months of the year with amusement rides, entertainment, u-pick fields and corn mazes specializing in local produce. It was originally created from the Remlinger family farm, owned by Floyd Remlinger, before being taken over by his son, Gary Remlinger.  -- Remlinger Farms Facebook page

Getting There

The route

It was a scenic drive to the Remlinger Farms.  On the way, we saw different species of cattle.  In addition, there are also new/old barns and lots of greenery.  Oh yes, we passed Camp Corey as well.  Finally, we entered the city of Carnation.  The city seems to be getting more and more beautiful each time we drove past.

U-Pick

There wasn't a lot of people when we got to the Remlinger Farms's upick field.  Most people must have visited yesterday as most of the raspberry plants had already been picked clean.  Nevertheless, we still managed to pick 5 pounds of raspberry in 1.5hrs!

Redmond Derby Day Parade 2012

14th Jul 2012

This year poster

Background

Redmond Derby Days celebrate its 72nd anniversary in 2012! A summer tradition that came to life at the end of the Depression, it began as a drive to raise money for downtown holiday decorations and school athletic equipment. The Redmond Bicycle Derby was the outgrowth of a small town's community spirit and is now the nation's longest running bicycle race. It includes activities for young and old. --Redmond Derby Days Web Site

Family Tradition

Attending the Redmond Derby Days's Parade has become our family tradition for the past 8 years.  Each year, the number of kids participating in the kids parade seems to be growing in number.  This year, I estimated two to four  thousands kids participated.  This has to be the biggest kids parade in the Washington State!  This implies that the Eastside community is striving too.

Decorate your wheels, yourself, your parents and pets and join the festivities. Get creative! Since the first Derby Days Kids Parade in 1940, the community's children have decked out their wheels and come to the parade. Decorate your bike, trike, scooter or skates and join the fun. It needn't be fancy! Remember, everyone is invited so get the whole family in the act.
Every child who participates and wears a helmet will receive a prize of two dollars courtesy of Clark, Raymond and Company, and Kempf and Company. Make sure you arrive on time so you can take advantage of all the pre-parade fun at Redmond Medical Center.  -- Redmond Derby Days Web Site
